The "r" word and those who use it as a way to put someone else down - as an insult - are those who would do well to stay out of my path. -------------- I'm guilty of that at times. I'm glad you clarified some of the misconceptions you mentioned. richard is a nice, sincere, & innocent guy. I wish him long life & happiness however he finds it. I'll have to check with my parents on his status and history to see if he's the subject of this tale.

so regardless of the reality of this case or not, I think the real lesson here is in the 3 year wait. god needs to test everyone's faith - even the developmentally disabled. god knows (pun) he may have not been seriously praying. the first 2.5 years probably help to vete out a lot who just can't stick with it. maybe those get picked up by the jewish/buddhist/hindu god(s) who might be more tolerant.

I tend to think most JW stories are mostly myth and fable - urban legends at best. I think this one has some truth. . . . here's why . . . . I have ties to the jacksonville area specifically the beaches . at the ponte vedra beach hall there is a downs syndrome man of about 50+ years if not more. his age surprised me because I never thought they lived that long. (showing my ignorance here). anyway last I visited there Richard Drag0ne (spelling to protect the innocent against googlization) was alive and well. from what I recall he moved to the area with his mother to Jax. later she was put in a home. I have no idea what became of her. I do know someone close to my family frequently gave him rides to the hall as well as others in the KH. . . . . now regarding the rest of the story about roaming the town or whatever, I never heard that. I can say this: he's never been considered legendary by jw standards in the jax area but who knows how that may have changed. -not feeling it

Uncaring Attitude of the Society
by donny ini just read the account of a an elderly lady who passed out in a distict convention in canada today (06/20/08).
it seems that as some of the attendees were trying to help by doing cpr, the "brother" on the platform a few feet away speaking did not even pause.
when his talk ended a few minutes later and the lady was still being tended too, the platform folks just announced the next speaker as if nothing was happening.

On topic, your comment, and the other topic about the woman who fell ill at the DC, made me think of all the people fainting at political rallies around the country. This was happening a lot, at all the candidate's rallies, because people had been standing for a very long time. I noticed at one event how Obama handled it, he simply quieted down, told everyone what was going on, and stood in silence until the medics could get the person taken care of. I'm sure the other candidates handled it similarly.
Quite a contrast with Jehovahs loving organization.
Good point and great illustration. The message is more important than the messengers, y'know!

Have you noticed an increase in JW's with one foot in the world????
by karter ini have a few examples: a witness did a job for me an asked for cash under the table.
alot of witnesses talk more about material things than anything else.
alot of complaining about the organization mostly by people that once held positions.

Any actually embarrased to admit they were Witnesses?
by Robert7 inwhen i was active, i was always (usually) proud to talk about being a jw, our faith, reasons for our stupid beliefs on birthdays, x-mas, etc.
now with everything i'm going through, given how much of an impact this is to my life, i want to talk to others about it, like coworkers, and other friends.
but thinking about how i would explain how it's a mind-controlling cult, i feel stupid for falling for it.

Graduation and elders meeting!
by why??? inhi everyone, i'm not new here just haven't posted in a while.
for those who remember me i'm graduating from college on wednesday!!!!
i'm very happy but there's still a dark cloud (pardon the dramatic-ness) i am still with my non-jw boyfriend of almost three years and i've let my parents know that we want to get married (next month) and they went and told the elders(they did it kinda behind my back) who now want to meet and talk with me!

Sounds like you are walking into thier witch hunt. That line you mentioned they said about pornei having a wide range is indicative of thier mindset. Even if you didn't knock boots, they will still want to know if fiance' went to second base or whatever else gets them off. Whatever the case, I agree that you don't owe anyone an explanation. I'd get real busy real quick. I'm not feeling thier love right now only the desire to control who you marry and what you do with that person.
